    North Country Snowmobile Trails Close
    Posted: Apr 05, 2018 1:39 PM EDT
    Updated Apr 05, 2018 1:39 PM EDT

Snowmobile trails are now closed in the north country.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation made the announcement Thursday.
This affects all snowmobile trails and seasonal access roads on forest preserve, state forest, and conservation easement lands in the Adirondacks and the north country.
The DEC says the lack of snow is dangerous to snowmobilers and damaging to snowmobiles.
Gates across the area will be closed by Monday. This includes all gates in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
The DEC will reopen the roads once any necessary maintenance is completed and the roads are dry enough to safely handle motor vehicle traffic.
The DEC says motor vehicle use during the spring mud season will damage roads and result in road opening delays.

Snowmobile and ATV do share some trails but different rules apply.

With all of the confusion that happens when the season opens and closes, I at least appreciate the effort that they actually made an announcement. You can never be too informed!

ATVs are not allowed on DEC Truck roads or trails at any time anyway so ATVs are not effected.
