hello all, I need a lil help, I am doing a correlation project, and i want to do it with somthing on snowmobiling. i need to correlate variable x and variable y together, like for example amount of snow per year correlated with fatalities on snowmobiles. i need 41 sets. like 120 inches of snow in 2009 and 10 fatalities. basically for that example i would have to go back 41 years.
Does anyone have any ideas on a correlation better than my example. If so can you point me in the right direction to get the proper statistics. is there maybe a stats page for new york state and snowmobileing, if so can some one point me in the right direction. By the way. the sleds are registered, fixed, oiled, gassed up, tuned up, and ready to rock. Just wanna prematurely welcome everyone back for the new season and i hope it is better this year than last year for all. its been a long summer for me and also my family, and personally i can not wait to get back out on the trails were all my stress will be disposed of for however long the snow is around. ![]()

Hey Panda, here's a start: http://nysparks.state.ny.us/recreat.../documents.aspx
The Documents section of the NY State Parks website, snowmobile pages. Last year's reports are there in PDF, but I would think they could supply you with past info if you contacted them. I did I quick re-read, and I don't think snow in inches per se is in there, but I think you can get that here: http://www.nrcc.cornell.edu/ Northeast Regional Climate Center (and this link I got off of the Tug Hill Commission website) http://www.tughill.org/region.html You gotta just love google!! Good luck, nice subject to study...but I suggest LOTS of field work ![]()

You also might want to check with Lewis Co. Sheriff's office. They do a great snowmobile report every year -- might be able to e-mail or mail you a copy.

Unfortunately, fatalities is a good place to run a correlation model because of the data avilable. But I would try to correlate to each fatality that doesn't involve an annual measure. Like, instead of fatalities to snowfall, do fatalities to speed, or BAC, or age, etc.
Here's another idea; correlate trail miles by county to average annual snowfall per county. |

Thats a good idea, I will have to dig around and see what kinda data i can come up with and if i can come up with enought to fill 41 sets. thanks for all the good info everyone. keep it coming, any lil bit helps. thanks again

I wonder what your statistic would show if you pareto alcohol and snowmobiling vs. deaths...there's probably a stronger correlation there then the amount of snow...
